Youth Support Worker – Vacancy

JNC 8 £20,589 (pro rata)

Part Time 5 hrs per week

Fixed Term until March 2023

 

Description:

To engage and support young people to access advice and guidance and additional support where needed with a view to improving their current and future outcomes, ensure opportunities for inclusion, positive choices, emotional wellbeing, keeping themselves safe and reducing the risk of exploitation or harm. This role will require at least one face to face session per week, additional hours can be used flexibly to meet need e.g. Holiday activities/monthly or bi weekly sessions dependent on need.

 

The post holder will be required to:

 

  • Work alongside the lead youth worker to help develop youth provision.
  • make contact and be available to young people aged 13 to 19 in the community at times and places they are available including evenings, school holidays and occasional weekends as required.
  • Support key relationships within the council and wider community to ensure a good understanding of local issues and to enable appropriate response and intervention
  • Work with young people through a variety of methods providing personal and social education to help them gain knowledge and recognise new opportunities in the world around them.
  • To encourage a sense of belonging and connection to their surroundings and local community by working with young people to reflect on the world around them in creative ways.
  • To build effective and meaningful relationships with young people through regular contact, mutual trust, respect and understanding whist maintaining professional boundaries
  • To respond to the needs of individuals and groups of young people by developing appropriate strategies for action which are both educational and fun.
  • To help enable young people to take more control over their lives and create experiences with them which enable them to make informed choices.
  • To help bridge the gaps in understanding between the local community and young people; and to highlight issues affecting young people acting as advocates for and with them within the wider community
  • Plan and organise holiday activities for young people

 

We will consider applications from candidates who are working towards or willing to work towards these qualifications but preference will be given to those who already hold them

 

 

  • Level 2 qualification in Youth Work

 

  • Safeguarding Level 2/3
