Helston Community Hospital is to become the Frailty Step Down Unit with the first patient being admitted today.

Its 20 beds will be reserved to care for patients recovering from the coronavirus with no further need for acute care but who need care until they can be discharged back to their homes.

The move means the hospital’s Minor Injuries Unit will be closed with immediate effect with the nearest MIU facilities being Camborne Redruth Community Hospital which is open from 8am to 10pm and Falmouth Community Hospital which is open from 8am to 8pm.
